19/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 19 February in Brussels, after a meeting on the subject with Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Phil Hogan, acknowledged the difficulties encountered by Sardinian producers of sheep's milk, due in particular to a fall in prices. He indicated that experts from his services will be dispatched to see how producers could “better benefit” from financial assistance under the European Union's promotion measures. The objective is to find new markets in Europe, but also to find opportunities through new trade agreements negotiated with several third countries (Singapore, Japan and Canada, Mexico). Mr Hogan saw potential for the 'Pecorino Sardo' PDO, or Sardinian sheep's cheese. Other tools available are State aid rules and the CAP's rural development programme. (LC)
