European Ombudsman again recommends Commission establish specific procedure for Secretary-General appointment

12/02/2019 (Agence Europe)On Monday, 11 February, the European Ombudsman, Emilly O’Reilly, formally closed her inquiry into the express appointment of Martin Selmayr to Secretary-General of the European Commission in February 2018 and again recommended that the EU institution create a specific procedure for the appointment of its Secretary-General that is separate from appointments to other senior posts (see EUROPE 12088). According to Ms O’Reilly, this new procedure should include the publication of a vacancy notice and the placing of the appointment on the College agenda. Moreover, the advisory committee involved in the procedure should include experts from outside the Commission. (MB)
