Part of Committee of Regions building soon to be renamed in honour of Paweł Adamowicz

06/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – The foyer on the fifth floor of the Committee of the Regions (CoR) will be named "Paweł Adamowicz Space" in honour of the Mayor of Gdańsk and former CoR member, murdered last 13 January (see EUROPE 12172), announced Karl-Heinz Lambertz, President of the Committee, at the opening of the plenary session on Wednesday 6 February. This event will be held as part of an official ceremony in memory of Mr Adamowicz on April 10, during which a commemorative plaque will also be installed. In addition to Mr Lambertz, Marek Woźniak, chairman of the CoR's Polish delegation, and Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomerania region - of which Gdańsk is the capital - also delivered speeches in tribute to the late Polish mayor before the start of the plenary session. They all underlined Mr Adamowicz's commitment to his fight against intolerance and for solidarity, as well as his love for his city. (DG - intern)
