06/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament's Committee on Culture (CULT) supports the European Commission's proposal to continue funding ongoing Erasmus+ activities in the event the United Kingdom leaves the European Union without an agreement (see EUROPE 12185). In practical terms, this means that, in the event of a no-deal Brexit, young people who have joined the Erasmus+ programme before 30 March 2019 - the day after the planned Brexit date - will continue to receive the funding originally allocated to them up to the end of their period of study. This applies to both non-British European students studying in the United Kingdom and young Britons studying in one of the other 27 EU countries. In order for this proposal to enter into force before 30 March, the CULT Committee will be following a simplified procedure. The vote in committee is scheduled for 20 February and the vote in Parliament's plenary session for some time in March. (DG - intern)
