29/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, and the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, welcomed on Tuesday 29 January the verdict of the Supreme Court of Pakistan confirming its decision to acquit Christian woman Asia Bibi (see EUROPE 12129). This decision "marks a long-awaited positive conclusion to the judicial process”, Ms Mogherini stressed, adding that the EU expects the Pakistani government to “continue to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of Asia Bibi and her family, as they would do for any Pakistani citizen”. “Asia Bibi's innocence is confirmed, the nightmare is over!” said Mr. Tajani. “After being unjustly accused and imprisoned, just because she is a Christian, she now has the right to rebuild a safe life with her family”, he added.
