29/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – European Parliament negotiators and the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council reached an inter-institutional agreement on Tuesday 29 January on new rules on the granting of visas for short stays in the European Union. Third-country nationals subject to a visa requirement will have to pay €80 compared to €60 previously for stays in the EU of up to three months, renewable once. Visa applications will have to be submitted between six months (currently three months) and 15 days before the planned trip, except for seafarers who can do so up to nine months in advance. Parliament rapporteur Juan Fernando López Aguilar (S&D, Spain) had anticipated this agreement in early January (see EUROPE 12169). EUROPE will continue to follow this.
