22/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – Representatives of the European Parliament and the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union reached an interinstitutional agreement on Monday 21 January on the revision of the Regulation (391/2009) on ship inspection and survey in the context of Brexit, following a single short session of interinstitutional negotiations. This meeting followed the political agreement reached by the Member States in November (see EUROPE 12137) and by the European Parliament on 10 January (see EUROPE 12169). The purpose of this text is to enable inspection organisations accredited at EU level by the Commission, on the basis of an initial request from the United Kingdom, to continue their activities in the EU after Brexit. According to our information, the text as proposed by the Commission last 1 August has been approved. Just a recital concerning the role of the Commission in identifying and exchanging good practices would have been added in order to facilitate the work of the Member States. (LT)
