22/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – On the eve of the vote in the European Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) called on MEPs on Tuesday 22 January to vote against the interinstitutional agreement reached in December on the proposal for a directive establishing a minimum harmonisation of legal frameworks to deal with corporate insolvency (see EUROPE 11962). "Once again, European legislators have missed an opportunity to improve European-wide workers’ participation rights in restructuring and insolvency procedures”, the organisation said in a statement. The ETUC considers that, as it stands, the text leaves too much scope for Member States and that a rejection of the text would provide another opportunity at second reading to determine minimum standards for workers' rights in insolvency cases.
