11/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, indicated on Friday 11 January in Bucharest that he was still hoping for an agreement with the United Kingdom on an orderly British withdrawal, the scenario of a Brexit without an agreement being a “catastrophe for our British friends and for the continentals”. Recalling that there “cannot be renegotiation, but clarification”, he confirmed close contact in order to consider how these clarifications, in particular on the Irish border issue, can be made between now and the vote in the British Parliament on Tuesday 15 January. “I can tell you that we all want an orderly withdrawal from the United Kingdom”, commented Romanian President Klaus Iohannis. At the same time, his country, which holds the six-month presidency of the Council of the EU, will do its utmost to ensure that the European Union is “ready” whatever "scenario prevails". (SP with CG)
