04/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – Transport & Environment launched a petition on Friday 4 January, entitled "No palm oil in my tank" to ban the use of palm oil in biofuels. The organisation is concerned about the significant pressure on the European Commission from Indonesia and Malaysia, who are threatening to block free trade negotiations with the EU. To recap, the European Parliament and the Council agreed on the revision of the Renewable Energy Directive, to exclude first-generation biofuels in transport by 2030 (see EUROPE 12136). However, the co-legislators have asked the European Commission to present a delegated act to complement the Directive on 1 February 2019 and set criteria for the certification of biofuels with a low indirect land-use change risk (Article 26), which could prevent the import of palm oil.
