Impact of measures announced by Mr Macron on French budget will be monitored “closely” by Commission

11/12/2018 (Agence Europe)The European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Pierre Moscovici, toldAFP on Tuesday 11 December that he was following "closely the impact" of the measures announced the previous evening by Emmanuel Macron, the French President, in the context of the French 'yellow vest' crisis. Among the announcements made by Mr Macron, which could cost between €8 and €10 billion according to the government, is the announcement to increase the minimum wage by €100 per month in 2019. On 21 November, the Commission considered that France presented risks of not meeting its budgetary commitments under the Stability and Growth Pact in 2019 (see EUROPE 12142). "The budgetary impact [of the measures] [...] will be assessed in the spring when we publish our economic forecasts," said Margaritis Schinas, the Commission's chief spokesperson. (LT)
