05/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – European foreign ministers will discuss the political and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela and its impact on neighbouring countries on Monday, 10 December. It will not be a question of adopting new sanctions targeting those responsible for the regime, whereas those targeting eighteen close to the Maduro regime have recently been renewed for one year (see EUROPE 12131). Like the Member States' ambassadors to the EU (Coreper), on Wednesday 5 December, the ministers will discuss the creation of a contact group to facilitate the resumption of political dialogue in Venezuela between the Bolivarian government and the political opposition, with the cooperation of regional organisations. These discussions will take place as the second term of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro begins on Thursday, 10 January. (MB)
