Member States' ambassadors to the European Union ('Coreper') are expected to approve without difficulty on Wednesday 21 November a political agreement ('general approach') on the revision of the Directive (2008/96/EC) on road infrastructure safety management.
This decision will precede a formal adoption of the political agreement by Member States' transport ministers on Monday 3 December.
The agreement is part of a proposal by the European Commission from 17 May last, which forms an integral part of the third ‘mobility’ package (see EUROPE 12022).
The text on which the Member States should agree is very similar to the second draft compromise put on the table by the Austrian Presidency of the EU Council at the beginning of October (see EUROPE 12119), itself in a similar spirit to the first draft compromise (see EUROPE 12098).
It should be noted that Annexes IIa and III, which serve as a working basis for national authorities in the inspection and evaluation of road networks falling within the scope of the text, have been redesigned.
In the European Parliament, discussions are still ongoing (see EUROPE 12117, 12111). (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
