European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+ on agenda of EU Council

The Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council programme - which will take place on 26 and 27 November in Brussels - is well known. Among the main decisions to be expected are a partial general approach on the European Solidarity Corps and another on Erasmus for the period 2021-2027.

As for details, the session will start on 26 November with the Youth and Education section. For the Youth part, in addition to a debate and the adoption of a partial general approach on the European Solidarity Corps, the ministers will adopt conclusions on youth work in the context of migration and refugee matters. They will also adopt a resolution on the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027 and hold a policy debate on the strategy's implementation. As regards the afternoon education part, in addition to the general orientation on Erasmus, the ministers will adopt a recommendation on promoting automatic mutual recognition of higher education and upper secondary education diplomas and the outcomes of learning periods abroad. They will also hold a policy debate on the establishment by 2025 of an European Education Area.

The next day, the European ministers will meet to discuss the Culture and Sport matters. For the Culture part, they will adopt a progress report for a new Creative Europe programme (2021-2027). They will also validate two sets of conclusions: one on the 2019-2022 Work Plan for Culture and the other on strengthening of the European content in the digital economy. They will also have a debate (which will be broadcast on Facebook) on tackling the spread of disinformation, focusing on ‘fake news’. Over lunch ministers responsible for sport matters will hold a debate on the major sporting events as drivers for innovation in the presence of a guest speaker,Martin Kallen, CEO of UEFA events. (Original version in French by Sophie Petitjean)
