13/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – The Special Committee on Terrorism was due to adopt its report on the evening of 13 November in Strasbourg, prepared by Monika Hohlmeier (EPP, Germany) and Helga Stevens (ECR, Belgium), after a year of field visits and hearings. The special commission, chaired by French MEP Nathalie Griesbeck (ALDE), was set up at the end of 2017, following the attacks that shook the EU. Several Members are already not in favour of the content of the report, such as Sylvie Guillaume (S&D, France), who raises red lines: not transforming this special committee into a standing committee, which would split the Parliament's Civil Liberties Committee; breaking the link, unacceptable in her view, made in the relationship between terrorism and migrants, and opposing the distinction made between the fight against terrorism and policies to defend fundamental rights. EUROPE will come back to this. (SP)
