27/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – In a press release on 27 September, several civil society organisations including the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) and the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) called on the co-legislators to be more ambitious than the European Commission with regard to the revision of the road infrastructure safety management directive 2008/96/EC (see EUROPE 12022). Although the organisations welcomed the Commission initiative, they have formulated a number of clarifications. They would like to include all main rural and urban roads in the directive's scope and for minimum performance standards to be created for road markings and signs. The Council of the EU’s land transport working party has began its work in this area and a second compromise will be put on the table by the Austrian Presidency (see EUROPE 12098, 12103). (LT)
