26/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 26 September, the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the European Union (‘Coreper’) approved the general approach reached during the Council of the EU Aviation Working Party for revising regulation 1008//2008 on the leasing of European aircraft with crews to third country airlines (see EUROPE 12100). It should be recalled that this position is similar to that of the European Parliament and is therefore limited to the compliance of EU standards with international obligations, namely the EU/US aviation agreement (see EUROPE 12009, 12026). It is possible, however, that the Commission could propose a general revision of the regulation in question in the future (see EUROPE 11983). This general approach now needs to be formally approved by the Council before the inter-institutional negotiations (‘trilogues’) can begin. (LT)
