26/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – On 26 September, the European Commission confirmed that it had asked the European anti-fraud office (OLAF) to verify suspicions concerning the use of European 'migration' funds in Greece, in particular funds intended for the distribution of food in camps, such as the one at Moria, which are alleged to have ended up enriching a businessman close to the authorities. The affair took a different turn this weekend, when three journalists were arrested by the Greek police for writing about the matter. The Commission explained that it is not responsible for investigating these suspicions and that it had not so far obtained evidence at its own level of any misappropriation of funds, hence the decision to refer the matter to OLAF, which is in a better position to investigate, explained Natasha Bertaud, spokesperson to Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos.
