EU Court of Justice asked if UK can stop Brexit unilaterally

24/09/2018 (Agence Europe)On Friday 21 September, Scotland’s top civil court asked the European Court of Justice about the possibility of the United Kingdom unilaterally revoking its decision to leave the EU before Brexit becomes effective at the end of March 2019.  This decision, considered as a victory for Remainers (who want to keep the UK in the EU), aims to clarify an element on which Article 50 of the Treaty remains silent and to offer legal enlightenment on all the options available to British parliamentarians in the cases of both an agreement on the UK's withdrawal and a lack of agreement.  The British government repeats that it does not intend to revoke the decision taken by the British people in the Brexit referendum of June 2016.  Further information can be found at: //bit.ly/2NwEsg5.  (MB)
