24/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – The definitive version of the code of good practices for tackling disinformation, as prepared by industry and civil society, is due for publication on Wednesday 26 September. According to one Commission source, the document is expected - in an effort to satisfy EU requirements - to be more ambitious than the preliminary version published by the platforms and advertisers last July (see EUROPE 12064). Our same source stated “Following the publication of this first document, we said that it was not sufficient and needed to be improved”. This source also considered that the definitive version should go beyond the 14 commitments on the table and concluded “We are going to assess and verify by the end of December whether we need to take further action. The European Council (in December: Ed) will be the moment for presenting our conclusions”. (SPj)
