20/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – According to a report from the European Union Statistical Office (Eurostat) published on 19 September, employment rates recorded for cities and suburbs (around 72%) are generally lower than those for rural areas (73%). This was particularly true in Belgium, with a 62% employment rate for the cities and 72% in rural areas. The same observations were made for Austria, where unemployment rates stand at 70% for cities and 79% forum areas. The reverse is true for the member states in Eastern Europe where employment rates are higher in cities then rural areas, with the most remarkable case being in Lithuania where there is an 82% employment rate in cities but 68% for rural areas.
