20/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 19 September, Luca Jahier, the President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), called for the EU to adopt, in 2019, an “ambitious” multiannual financial framework (MFF) of the EU for 2021-2027. He made a statement following the adoption of the EESC's opinion on this dossier (see EUROPE 12099). The EESC supports the new priorities of the EU, but is opposed to the “significant cuts” proposed by the Commission to the older priorities (European Social Fund, structural funds and Common Agricultural Policy), which have proven effective. He also called for the full implementation of the European pillar of social rights. (LC)
