Commission amends its proposal on the revision of the ESAs to put EBA at front and centre of fight against money laundering

One of the key announcements in the state of the union speech by the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, this Wednesday 12 September, concerned the new measures to tackle money laundering more effectively, through a new role for the European Banking Authority (EBA).

Recent scandals involving several European banking groups in Malta, Latvia and Denmark have highlighted the limited powers of the EU bodies in this area and a lack of coherence between the supervisory rules...
