04/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 3 September, the Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions (CPMR) hailed the report by Pascal Arimon (EPP, Belgium) on the regulation relating to European territorial cooperation (Interreg) for the next multiannual financial framework of the EU. The organisation above all welcomes the rapporteur’s resolve to strengthen the Interreg budget, instead of reducing it by 12% as proposed by the European Commission (see EUROPE 12029), and in particular to maintain cross-border cooperation (see EUROPE 12087). In addition, the CPMR welcomes the possibility – already introduced by the Commission – to integrate third countries, including the United Kingdom after Brexit, in interregional cooperation programmes.
