On Tuesday 4 September, the European Commission announced it had launched a call for applications for the selection of members of the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF). The deadline for applications is 31 October 2018.
The STECF provides the European Commission with scientific, technical and economic recommendations on the management of fishing resources. It assists the Commission in the preparation of legislative proposals, delegated acts or policy initiatives in the area of maritime affairs and fisheries.
Candidates must have proven competence and experience at European or international level in the following areas: marine and fisheries biology, knowledge of fishing techniques, scientific data collection, marine ecosystem management, evaluation and assessment of multi-annual stock management plans, socio-economic analysis of the fisheries sector, and aquaculture.
STECF members are appointed for a three-year period. They act independently and in the public interest. In principle, the STECF meets three times a year. It is composed of at least 30 members but must not exceed 35 members. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
