  • Vienna (A). Council of the EU. Informal meeting of the defence ministers (and 30/08). – Defence Europe: stock-take on projects currently being developed (permanent structured cooperation, European defence fund). – Situation in the Mediterranean (EUNAVFOR MED Operation Sophia).
  • Brussels. European Parliament. Activities of the committees. – PECH: discussions on tackling plastic waste in the sea on the basis of the draft opinion by Ms Briano on the subject. – ECON: exchange of views on proposals for the taxation of digital (Rosati and Tang); - examination of the draft report on the proposal concerning crowdfunding (Fox); - examination of the draft report on the alignment of costs for cross-border payments in euros and currency conversion (Maydell). – TRAN: examination of the draft report concerning the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) 2021-2027. – BUDG: vote on mobilising the Solidarity Fund in favour of Greece, Poland, Lithuania and Bulgaria, which were hit by natural disasters in 2017. – AFET: discussion with Nikola Dimitrov, former Foreign Minister of FYROM, ahead of the Commission’s 2018 report on this country; - examination of the 2018 report on Bosnia & Herzegovina. – AGRI: examination of the draft opinion on reducing the environmental impact of certain plastic products; discussion on the interim report on the CFP 2021-2027 (European Parliament’s position with a view to an agreement).

Thursday 30 August

Meeting of the foreign affairs ministers in Gymnich format (and 31/08) to be attended by High Representative Federica Mogherini and Commissioner Johannes Hahn. - Current developments in the Middle East (Yemen, Libya and Syria, Iran and Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with the development of Israeli settlements). – Transatlantic relations (common global action plan, maintaining the nuclear agreement, denuclearisation of North Korea). – South Eastern Europe (recent developments in the enlargement perspective). – Reinforcement of effective multilateralism in the framework of the EU global strategy for the common foreign and security policy: working meeting to be attended by the accession candidate countries.

  • Brussels. European Parliament. Activities of the committees. – PEST: hearing on the subject “EU authorisation procedure for pesticides – comparative analysis of authorisation procedures in OECD countries. – AGRI: discussion with the Commission on the drought situation in Europe. – LIBE: vote on whether to launch trilogue negotiations on visa-free access for 90 days for citizens of Kosovo holding a biometric passport. – TAX3: visit to Latvia to discuss the voluntary liquidation of the bank ABLV at senior political level (and 31/08). – EMPL: debates on the regulation establishing the creation of a European labour authority, on transparent and predictable working conditions in the EU and on the future European Social Fund plus.
