Under half of member states have transposed directive on network security

01/08/2018 (Agence Europe)The European Commission is monitoring implementation of the directive on security of network and information systems (Directive “SRI”, (EU)2016/1148), adopted in 2015.  It told EUROPE that only 11 member states out of 28 have transposed the provisions of the directive and said that a letter of formal notice had been sent to the other 17 (Austria, Bulgaria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Spain).  These states have not kept to the 9 May deadline which, inter alia, stipulated that countries should identify operators providing so-called “essential” services for the public, or indicate the kinds of penalties to be imposed in the event of infringement.  (SP)
