01/08/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 31 July, the EU called for inclusive dialogue on the constitutional reform plan which strengthens the powers of the president of the Comoros, following the constitutional referendum of 30 July approved by 92.74% of votes cast but boycotted by the opposition. “Given the approach that steered preparations for the referendum of 30 July and the resulting violence, the European Union calls on the government and the opposition to rekindle dialogue in order to allow inclusive consultation on the constitutional changes”, the spokesman for the European External Action Service (EEAS) said in a press release on Tuesday evening. The EU backs the resolution of the African Union heads of state calling for the Fomboni agreement to be respected and recommending that agreement be reached under the auspices of the African Union, the release states.
