The annual inflation rate in the Eurozone stood at 2% in June, corresponding to an increase of 0.1% compared to May (see EUROPE 12042), according to figures announced by the statistical office of the European Union (Eurostat) on Wednesday 18 July.
This equates to a 0.7% increase compared to June 2017. The same rate in the European Union as a whole is also 2.0%, unchanged from the previous month but up on June 2017, when it stood at 1.5%.
This annual inflation rate of 2.0% masks significant disparities within the EU, as prices rose very modestly in Ireland (0.7%) and Greece (1.0%), whilst the same rate was 3.9% in Estonia 4.7% in Romania.
Among the components of this annual inflation rate, energy is the sector which made the largest contribution, of 0.76%, ahead of services (0.57%), food, alcohol & tobacco (0.53%) and non-energy industrial goods (0.1%). (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
