Presidents and Mogherini want to continue work on normalisation of relations

The European External Service (EEAS) has announced that during their meeting in Brussels on Wednesday 18 July, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and the presidents of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, and Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, agreed to meet again in a few weeks' time to continue their work on the normalisation of relations.

According to a short EEAS press release published at the end of the meeting, Mogherini, Thaçi and Vučić "reviewed the progress made in the discussions on the framework of a legally binding agreement on comprehensive normalisation of relations between the two sides".

Vučić described the meeting as "extremely complicated".  "We agreed to continue the talks to find common ground for a compromise solution and to preserve peace and stability in relations between Belgrade and Pristina", he told media.  "We must try to find a compromise on many important issues", he said, without giving further details.

Thaçi also said the meeting had been "short and difficult – perhaps the shortest and most difficult in six years".  "We will work on the final agreement that will be of benefit for both countries, but there will be setbacks in the comings days and months", he warned.  (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
