06/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 4 July, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published, on an experimental basis, new guidance on the types of testing that are needed and the methods that can be applied in the scientific assessment of the risks to human and animal health of nanoscience and nanotechnology applications in food and feed. The recommendations are designed to help companies make full submissions to EFSA when seeking authorisation of products. The document covers areas such as novel foods, food contact materials, food and feed additives, and pesticides. It will be finalised by the end of 2019. A further guidance document, on assessing the environmental risks associated with nanoscience and nanotechnology applications in the food and feed chain, will be developed in 2019, EFSA has announced.
