Green light to Luxembourgish system of compensating heavy energy consumption companies

06/07/2018 (Agence Europe)On Friday 6 July, the European Commission found that the Luxembourgish system of compensating heavy energy consumption companies, which face higher electricity prices as a result of the indirect costs of CO² emission under the EU's emissions quota trading system, was in line with the EU's rules on state aid.  The beneficiaries of this plan are companies of sectors where energy consumption is significant, and which are particularly exposed to international competition. The plan will be in place between 2017 and 2020, and will be given an envelope of €600 million.  The objective is to avoid companies relocating outside the EU to countries where regulation is less restrictive.  (CG, intern)
