06/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 6 July, the European Commission authorised the Slovak plan to grant reductions on a nuclear levy to certain electro-intensive users from 2019. The Commission considers that this measure is proportionate and limited to companies that are active in electro-intensive sectors exposed to international trade. On this basis, the Commission concluded that the Slovakian plan is in line with EU state aid rules. According to the Commission, the measure "will contribute to the competitiveness of these companies without unduly distorting competition in the single market". The Slovak government notified this measure to the Commission for review. The nuclear levy for electricity consumption was set up by the Slovak government in 2011 and authorised by the Commission in 2013. (CG, intern)
