28/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 27 June, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service spoke out against the execution Abolfazl Chezani Sharahi in Iran earlier the same day. Sharahi was convicted of a murder that he had committed when he was 14 years old. "Death penalty sentences for crimes committed by persons below the age of 18 are contrary to Iran’s international obligations under the International Covenant for Civil and Political Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child", the EEAS spokesperson said in a press release, adding that the European Union is opposed to the death penalty under all circumstances and aims at its universal abolition.
