28/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 27 June, the European Patents Office (EPO) inaugurated its new main building (107 meters high and 156 meters long) at its Rijswijk site in The Hague in the Netherlands. The inauguration was attended by around 350 guests, including King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and representatives from 38 member states. According to the press release published on this occasion, which points out that the site employs almost 3,000 agents and is the largest international organisation based in the Netherlands, "The new building represents the organisation's largest single investment in the Netherlands”. The EPO’s outgoing President, Benoït Battistelli, whose accomplishments in the social field are controversial, stated, “It is our conviction that the new office will also usher in a new era for our employees in the Netherlands” (see EUROPE 11504).
