28/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – In an open letter addressed to heads of state and government on Wednesday 27 June, Eurocities, which represents a network of more than 130 European metropolitan capital cities and towns highlighted the need for a “humane response” to the migration question despite the disputes between the member states on this issue (see EUROPE 12041, 12042). Speaking on behalf of Eurocities, its President, Daniël Termont, stated “We are doing our part”. He is calling for the European asylum system to be based on three factors: Creating effective legal migration pathways; Sharing responsibilities for reception and integration across all levels of government; Fully recognising the impact of local administrations by making EU financial support for reception and integration directly accessible by cities. Cohesion Policy will also include a component on migration management (see EUROPE 12013). Click here to consult the letter in full: https://bit.ly/2KikKTC . (PH)
