04/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 4 June, European Justice Ministers proceeded to a brief exchange of views on the ‘Facebook/Cambridge Analytica’ affair. Added at the last minute last week to the "any other business" part of the agenda at the request of Germany, discussions particularly focused on the digital threats affecting election processes. The German minister invited his colleagues to look at the problem in a broader perspective, particularly in light of interoperability and the transparency of algorithms. Seven member states spoke during the discussion to support the German declarations and some of them called for a "real" discussion to be included on the agenda at the next informal meeting. Commissioner Vera Jourova explained that she had highlighted the need for an appropriate application of the new rules on data protection. (MF)
