31/05/2018 (Agence Europe) – Emergency humanitarian aid of €40 million has been made available by the European Commission to support Rohingyas in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, and Rohingya refugees in their host communities in neighbouring Bangladesh, the Commission announced on Thursday 31 May. This additional funding will cover the most pressing needs (food, access to drinking water and sanitation, protection) for a highly vulnerable people. €29 million is earmarked for the Cox’s Bazar district in Bangladesh (where one million refugees live in camps and shelters); €7 million will help preparations for the monsoon season, which could cause flooding and mudslides in the most crowded refugee camp in the world; and €4 million will be for Rohingyas in Myanmar.
