In a letter to the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, dated Wednesday 30 May, of which EUROPE has had sight, the leader of the Polish EPP delegation, Janusz Lewandowski, and Danuta Jazłowiecka (EPP, Poland) have called for a fresh vote on the 'posted workers' directive.
In line with Parliament's internal regulation (article 182 on challenging a vote), they call on the President of the Parliament to put the inter-institutional agreement on the 'posted workers' directive to a vote once again due to the “chaos” which reined during the vote (see EUROPE 12029) and the extreme speed with which Vice-President Pavel Telička moved the vote.
The voting list, which they describe as complex, is reported to have been notified on the morning of the day of the vote. Moreover, they consider that the amendment on the provisional agreement (amendment 39) was improperly introduced by the Vice-President, misleading the Polish EPP delegation and several other MEPs. Nearly 40 MEPs ended up changing their vote (see EUROPE 12030), whereas around a hundred wished to do likewise, Jazłowiecka claims.
Although article 182 of the regulation allows the President of the European Parliament to decide whether or not a vote is valid, this eventuality remains unlikely in the view of several sources close to the dossier, as it is too political a matter. (Original version in French by Pascal Hansens)
