24/05/2018 (Agence Europe) – The vote in Parliament’s civil liberties committee on the draft resolution assessing progress in applying the transatlantic data protection mechanism, Privacy Shield, did not take place in the end on Thursday 24 May. Claude Moraes (S&D, United Kingdom) explained that as chair and rapporteur on the dossier, he had decided in the evening in consultation with several groups that more time was needed to reach a compromise. Another reason mentioned was the absence of a number of MEPs from a number of groups. During examination of the text, MEPs’ opinions diverged in effect on the progress noted and the tone to be used in the resolution (see EUROPE 12000). The vote has been postponed until the next committee meeting on 4 June. (MF)
