Review of countervailing measures against imports of Indian polyethylene terephthalate

24/05/2018 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 22 May, the European Commission opened an expiry review of the countervailing measures applicable since May 2013 to imports of certain polyethylene terephthalate  (PET) originating in India.  The review was opened following a request lodged in February by the Committee of PET Manufacturers in Europe (CPME), which represents more than 80% of the total European Union production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET).  The CPME said the expiry of the measures would probably favour the continuation or reappearance of subsidies, as well as of the damage caused to the EU industry.  PET is used in synthetic fibres, in packaging for drinks and food, and in other containers for liquids.  (EH)
