In-depth investigation into Romanian restructuring aid to national uranium company

On Tuesday 8 May, the European Commission opened an in-depth investigation to determine whether Romanian public aid awarded to the national uranium company is compatible with EU state aid rules.

In June 2017, Romania notified the Commission of a restructuring plan for the Compania Nationala a Uraniului SA (CNU), valued at €95 million and taking the form of subsidies, aid, debt write-offs and conversions of debt into capital.
