17/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – This Tuesday 17 April, the vice-president of the European Commission with responsibility for the Digital Single Market, Andrus Ansip, was in San Francisco for a series of meetings to discuss transatlantic digital cooperation with the bosses of the American giants Google, Twitter, Netflix and also Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of the social network Facebook, who has been in the hotseat following the Cambridge Analytica scandal (see EUROPE 11999). Until to now, contact with senior European officials was channelled mainly through the group's COO, Sheryl Sandberg. According to Reuters, Zuckerberg was invited to attend the plenary session currently underway in Strasbourg to explain himself, but declined due to prior commitments. On Wednesday, therefore, the debate will go ahead without him, but the social network boss may well be heard at a later date by several parliamentary committees. (MF)
