Federica Mogherini to visit Ukraine on 11 and 12 March

On Wednesday 7 March, the European External Action Service announced that High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini will visit Ukraine on 11 and 12 March.  While Mogherini regularly meets with her Ukrainian counterparts, her last visit to the country was in November 2015 (see EUROPE 11829).

The EEAS says that Mogherini will meet Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and the Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons, Vadym Chernysh.

Mogherini's visit will be the opportunity to discuss reforms linked to the implementation of the association agreement, especially the fight against corruption, but also to discuss the situation in Crimea and in the east of the country.  She will discuss the situation on the ground and the (non) implementation of the Minsk agreements with the chief monitor of the OSCE special monitoring mission, Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan, the special OSCE representative to the trilateral contact group, Martin Sajdik, and Alain Aeschlimann, the head of the mission to Ukraine of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Mogherini will also meet members of the EU advisory mission (see other article), of the EU delegation and of civil society.

Ukraine is a subject likely to be addressed at the Foreign Affairs Council on 19 March, a day on which Klimkin will be in Brussels.  (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
