05/03/2018 (Agence Europe) – As announced by EUROPE (see EUROPE 11971), on Monday 5 March the Council of the EU prolonged the assets freeze until 6 March 2019 for 13 people, including Ukraine's former president Viktor Yunukovych. The people concerned are accused of embezzling Ukrainian state funds and of having transferred them illegally out of Ukraine. The restrictive measures against two people have not been prolonged. According to a European source, these two people are the former justice minister, Olena Leonidivna Lukash, and businessman Serhii Kliuiev. The legal acts linked to this decision will be published in the Official Journal on 6 March 2018. The sanctions were introduced initially in March 2014 and have been extended on an annual basis since then. (CG)
