01/03/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 1 March, the European Parliament gave the green light for activating the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund to the tune of €2.13 million as assistance for 900 Ericsson employees in Sweden and €720,000 for around 300 textile workers in Spain. The objective is to help the redundant workers get back on the labour market again. Since 2014, Ericsson has suffered from competition in Asia and has closed three companies and several production lines. Similarly, international competition has particularly affected the textile industries in the region of Galicia. The Council gave its approval on 27 February last to two requests, which now pave the way to using the fund. (PH)
