01/03/2018 (Agence Europe) – Avaaz, the online activist network that is being sued by Monsanto for its campaign against glyphosate, has been officially invited to the European Parliament. A letter of invitation was sent on Wednesday 28 February, announced Belgian MEP Marc Tarabella (S&D) who instigated the move which was given the backing of his political group. “I proposed that Avaaz be officially received at the European Parliament, not to interfere in the on-going legal case but to make clear our solidarity with a platform which acts as a conduit for people’s indignation”, he said. In the subpoena issued, Avaaz is requested to provide the names, email addresses and other information on its users. This is seen by Tarabella as an attempt to intimidate “citizens who hold a different view to prevent them from defending their values and beliefs”. (AN)
