12/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – In a note published on 29 January, the European Commission addressed implications of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU for the type-approval system for motor vehicles. It says that, in the event that no agreement is concluded, Directive 2007/46/EC on the approval of motor vehicles would cease to apply to the UK from midnight (CET) on 30 March 2019. From that date, it will no longer be possible to sell a vehicle in the single market with a British certificate of conformity. The British approval authority will no longer be in a position to perform any of the functions and activities incumbent upon it under the terms of this directive. The Commission is considering how to ensure and facilitate continued compliance with EU law for type-approvals granted by UK authorities prior to the withdrawal date.
