Green light to Polish measure to support closure of coal mines

On Thursday 8 February, the European Commission approved a Polish support plan for the closure of coal mines, under EU state aid rules.

The support, which has been put at 5 million zloty (around €1.25 million), aims to offset the environmental and social impacts resulting from the closure of uncompetitive coalmines for the year 2018.
