08/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – Speaking on Polish television, Polish Minister for Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz, welcomed his meeting with European Commission First Vice President Frans Timmermans, on Thursday 8 February in Brussels. He explained that he had invited the Commissioner to continue the discussions on the rule of law in Warsaw next March. The Minister was also expected to meet European Commissioner for Justice Vera Jourova, this Thursday. According to the Minister, quoted by Polish television, Frans Timmermans provided assurances that the idea was to obtain a compromise with Poland in the next few weeks. It should be recalled that the Commission has begun the so-called "Article 7" procedure against the Polish authorities in the context of respect for the rule of law and concerns provoked by legal reforms that have taken place in the country. Poland has until the end of March to respond. (SP)
